A Conversation for Names and Origins of the Elements

Hello Hell,
I don't know if this is helpful, but I when I am teaching the names of elements, I give my students a spiele about some of these being named after (astronomical objects (ii) peoples names (discoverers thereof) (iii) peoples names (famous scientists) iv) gographical places (continents, cities)(v) colour/appearance.
Then I give trhem a Periodic Table and get them to colour code each element according to these categories (they have to do their own research.
I thought it might be more interesting/more coherent if your article was set out in this way rather than as an alphabetical list of elements?
Just a thought.

Hey Bigal, nice seein' you here. This was indeed a big topic. I even started writing separated Entries (since this is a *big* one) under this aspect. One general Entry and five or so sub-Entries for geographic locations, for names of scientists, for properties and one for miscellaneous. There was some discussion around this in PR. The general consensus was, however, that this Entry is not aimed at *teaching* the names to students. It's more a look-up table a reference. Like 'Hey what do you have to smoke to think of names like 'Dysprosium'?' - So, for that reason it's probably better to have them all together in one big alphabetical list.

P.S. Many congratulastions on reaching the Front Page . (I'm looking forward to seeing the first of my entries there).

That's right, Bigal! I almost forget you're still a *newbie* . Your Entries are so good it seems you've been here for a long time.
I can't wait to see them hit front page, too. But you have to be patient. This one (OK, it's a long one) took almost three months from the picking date to the front page.
