Yes this is a good topic on tape but i cant find any thing on the uses of duct tape. in my personal opinion duct tape is the most wonderfull tool in the universe ever made. i am considered some what of an expert in the fixing and making of duct tape and will give you a breif history on it.

Duct tape was first invented in 1942 During World War 2 and invented by Johnson and Johnson Permacel, for military use. The main reson duck tape was invented was to keep the moisture out of the amunition cases. scence the tape was water proof the tape was nicknamed 'duck tape' for being like a ducks feathers. Military personnel quickly discovered that the tape was very versatile and used it to fix their guns, jeeps, aircraft, etc. After the war, 'duck tape' was relesed to the public. people found out that this tape was useful to fix thier air ducts. the name was then switched to 'duct tape' and changed the color from military green to air duct silver, as we see it now.
Duck tape is composed of 3 layers,
the top layer (1) is a resilient plastic (Polyethelyne). The bottom layer (3) is a rubber-based adhesive. The middle layer (2) is a fabric mesh.
its not that strong on its own but it is reported to be able to pull a 2000lb car out of a ditch when doubled over.
