Bren
You came into my life
And what did you bring?
You beautiful soft-furred tiny thing
Seemingly afraid of everything
Yet sparky too
One green eye and one of blue
Both wide as saucers staring at me
Taking in all that you can see
Sitting sphinx-like as still as can be
Giving all and sundry a fixed scrutiny.
Then, a momentary flash of black and white
And you're off in a second at the speed of light
Knocking multitudinous things all over the floor
Disappearing fast, then coming back for more
Spinning like a dervish so skittishly
Then over on your back purring continuously
Little white paws gently clasping me
Eyes slowly closing so sensuously
Face rubs and kisses bestowed upon me
Pink yawns and mews, while stretching blissfully.
Then, scattering away in fright
At the sight
Of another human being
What are you seeing?
An awesome giant coming at you
Escape is always what you do.
And I wonder? The people in your past
Did they do something to you?
Why so scared of strangers?
Why run from someone new?
So what did you bring?
You beautiful, soft-furred,
Gentle, but mischievous thing
You've brought me so much
With your sweet feline touch
And eased my loneliness.
Now life on my own
Is not quite so bad.
Love brought you to me
But although you're mine
Your spirit is free.
