Isn't vaporub absorbed through skin too?

I'm fairly sure that rubbing on the skin would cause absorption through the skin of the active ingredients - you don't actually need to breath it in, you'll soon end up breathing it out .
To see the truth of this try rubbing a cut clove of garlic on the sole of your foot - in five minutes your breath will smell of garlic. This was demonstrated to me a few years ago in a talk on massage oils.
