A Conversation for Theatre Lighting Technicians
Some exceptions

Depending on the theatre, sometimes it is the lighting area that gets at the bottom of the pile: colour is determined by what costume and scenic choices are made, not necessarily what the designer wants. Directors enjoy reblocking, which requires lots of refocusing...
Some master electricians get no electricians to help them, meaning they are the ones doing all of the stupid (but fun) things. Usually with the lighting designer helping.
Don't forget that electricians should also know some carpentary as there will always be a lighting designer somewhere who will want some sort of practical that needs to be built, which the carpentars can't build because there are not enough of them and they are running behind in their own work.
