I thought this detailed article would provide the answer to my question. Does anyone know the origin of the fact that buttons on men's shirts are on the right side of the shirt and women's buttons are on the left? Please help!!!

Thanks!!!! Ed

Or you could try looking here, click on 'Life' then 'Human Behaviour'...smiley - ermI see your point, or should I say that I haven't found mine. smiley - eurekaEd! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suit_(clothing)#Women.27s_suits (and scroll down to "...buttons"-drawing of the sword).

Hi there, I think the opposite buttoning stems from rich ladies who had a dresser, obviously to dress, but men dressed themselves, hence the buttons round the other way.
