This isn't really a critique so much as an extraneous comment.
Has anyone heard of Nuoc mam? It's a Vietnamese fish sauce which is served with just about everything one eats in S. E. Asia.
Even the preparation sounds identical. Is it really possible that TWO civilizations could independently develop something so horrid?
I suggest looking for Roman ruins along the Mekong.

Hi Evilcor,
I think we mean the same thing. It's difficult to spell in the Roman (sic) alphabet what is pronounced in an asian language - I refered to it as Nuc Nam.
Doesn't have to have been a settlement, just a tourist would have done, in either direction! After all Marco Polo brought back noodles to Italy and look what happened!
