a paradigm, in my understanding of this entry, is a base set of accepted/proven theories upon which something is based. All new discoveries are analysed according to the set theories.

A paradigm shift occurs when something is discovered that CANNOT be explained by the base set of theories, and thus leads to the alteration of the current paradigm in order to accommodate the new discovery...

Have I got this right, or am I missing something?
