A uni friend of mine from Essex descibed fashion victim types as townies although here in Lincolnshire I'd say a townie was a boyracer type. We had a bizarre drunken argument about it once! It seemed very important at the time.

As a person who has spent much of my life in Lincolnshire I would say that in Lincs the term 'Townie' has connotations of boy racer-hood, mostly as Lincolnshire is very much a car-owning area.
However, not all Townies own cars, car-owning townies are a large subset of townies would be the fairest thing to say.
