Believe it or not, Educational Comics. Lord knows how the ended up making Mad. Also, technically the phrase "EC Comics" is redundant, though I won't nail you too hard for that.

i can tell you as a long time reader and collector of MAD.william gaines inherited the business from his fatherther who publpublished educational comics<

Interesting Trivia... William Gaines father is credited with inventing the comic book. Originally he just repackaged select sunday funnies.
