My current favourite is "anonymous pasta."
First of all get in some pasta (spagetti is the usual favourite.) This is cheap in dodgy student market type places. All you need to do is boil it till is goes soft (not too soft though.)
Then add "anonymous sause" This is best made add midnight when drunk as you won't care (or remember) wht you put in it. Usually a good base is Pasatta (tomato gunk - also cheap to get) then add whatever you can find in your house (Rancid vegetables, vodka, yogurt, peas, illegal substances, the cat) and fry until it starts spitting and burning you (unless you include the cat - in which case you fry till it stops spitting at you.)
Shove in frige and try to forget about it untill you are starving and there is nothing else to eat.
Almost works like Dwarf Bread.

Dwarf Bread is something that turns up a lot in Terry Pratchett novels.
It can be used to stop you from starving on long journeys simply because whenever you look at it you don't feel hungry anymore. No-one knows the true recipe (other than dwarfs of course) but it definately contains gravel in there somewhere. They take the term Rock cakes quite literally.
Dwarf bread was not originally made for (not) eating but was created for military uses. When throwing bread at ducks is a form of hunting. There are even dwarf bread museums where you can witness such keen workmanship as the archiac decapitation crumpet.
Definately typical student food.
Oh and another favorite recipe of mine: "CHEESE ON ANYTHING"
Does exactly what it says on the tin.

Well, when I was a proper student, I.E., before I got tons of cash (but carried on studying), I went something near vegatarian, well, I still ate meat, but itse expenxive so tons of veg did trick, rice, pasta, bread.
I used to go to the market 5 mins before it closed, waited till they did close and buy the veg that otherwise would be thrown out; huge discount obvviously!Similarly in supermarket, (one with backery) o along half hour before they close and buty all the half price (and chepper) stuff, inc bread, only cooked earlier that day but for a few pence! So I managed to eat for pret
ty little money, but get good stuff; proper bread, fresh veg, etc..

Ahhh you were never a proper student!!! 'Bread, fresh veg etc!!! Pah, as a student I got my grant every month and spent the first week eating kebabs, pizza's, curries, and drinking lots and lots of beer. Then in the next 3 weeks I bought huge amounts of cheap tinned tuna, tons of jars of cheap mayonnaise and several hundred loads of the cheapest bread. I then survived on tuna mayonnaise sandwiches till my grant came through again!!
Oh, and any money left over went straight on the bars, pubs, clubs - now that's what I call being a student...

but i only ever got the cheap stuff... Discounted at the end of the day supermarcket bread etc., left over bits of teh marcket stalls, where they want to sell it for anything, rather than let it go to waste (and they get no money for it), and so they don't have to cart it back with them but the cheap tins of hotdog sausages, tunna, mackeral fillets in tomato sauce, and those kinds of things featured also, but beer was always the first priority
Key: Complain about this post
