G'day Gnarly,
Name of suburb: Woronora smiley - smiley
It's Prices Circuit on the west side of the River, and Prince Edward Park Road on the eastern side.
If you're coming from the east (Sutherland) side, you'll need to find your way to River Road and then drive down the winding route (past all the cliff cuttings for the new bridge construction), across the bridge and first on the left. You can't miss the two-storey building containing Dijon's Restaurant, the take-away food shop and a video store smiley - smiley

Could a person who thinks himself a photographer find a plethora of photo opportunities around there?

Hi Gnarly,

I think a person who thinks himself a photographer could employ himself for hours in Woronora smiley - smiley

Views down into the valley from the plateau on either side are quite breathtaking. The heavily wooded valley sides provide a lovely green contrast to the River, which varies from shades of brown or grey to deep blue on a sunny day.

Otherwise you might like to take shots of the River from the parks along the banks, or record the progress of the new four-lane bridge which is nearly half-way across the valley now. It has quite a majestic (if boringly concrete) sweep and is several stories high.

Furthermore, a fellow local assures me that the signs advertising 'Best Burgers' at the take-away below Dijon's are no lie, and photographers need to keep their strength up...

Hmmm, well that rather assumes there IS somewhere to rent here in Woronora! There may be a few houses available but there are no flats (apartment blocks). I'd guess the rates would be about the same as those of Sutherland, the nearest suburb to our east.

If by 'Sydney itself' you mean the central business district near Sydney Harbour, it's about a 40 minute train ride, longer in the car depending on traffic. Sydneysiders pretty much regard any suburb that's part of the conurbation around the CBD as part of 'Sydney' (despite the fact this can stretch for a great distance from the city), so despite our apparent distance from the CBD we consider ourselves Sydney residents smiley - winkeye
