The wild west country

Post 1

My friend "reliably" informs me that everyone in Hereford has two heads.

Mind you, he does come from Worcester...

*in wild west accent* 'You ain't from around these parts, are you, pardner?'

I'm not sure you can count The Marches as 'west country', unless you live in London/the south-east, in which case the rest of England is divided into simply 'up north' and 'the west country'. And, Hereford and Worcester are now divorced, and Hereford is darn happy to be rid of it's ugly counterpart, which was always bringing it down.

Hereford is a city unlike any other in England. It still has a real sense of charm, a varied but wholeheartedly friendly community, and a one-way system which changes on a weekly basis. If you fancy a true old-fashioned Christmas, with street festivities and picturesque black-and-white cottages, you couldn't find a better place. There also happens to be a very nice chip shop in Bridge Street, from where, a two-minute stroll will bring you to the lovely Bishops Meadow, where you can enjoy your chips in a lovely setting by the River Wye.

May as well jump in...
Are you talking about THE f&c shop on bridge street?
Last time I went there I got run over on the bridge

I was. But the standards seemed to have slipped. Why are their chips so yellow? Know any other good chippies?

At least there's no chance of getting run over on the bridge at present (except perhaps by a disgruntled workman pushing a wheelbarrow).

Other good chippies ey?
Well despite what it looks like, the place opposite the eye hospital is good, you get hot and decent chips and they give you proper portions. Just go in with an open mind and a good command of the chinese language.
And why narrow the bridge ey? If you wan't to get rid of the traffic in Hereford BUILD A BY-PASS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think altering the bridge is a work of unprecedented mental accomplishment, and the addition of traffic lights the perfect finishing touch! Isn't it about time the one way system was reversed again too? I know - let's add to the joys of city life by altering the direction of traffic flow on a daily basis...or better still, on the toss of a coin. Heads it flows this way this morning...tails it's reversed this afternoon. I take my hat off to the road planners...I could never come up with the ideas they do.

Do you think their is some relationship between the fact the chip shop you describe is positioned near the eye hospital?!

Not that comes to mind. As for the roads, did you get the leaflet from the council talking about their plans for the next 5 years?
Its great, first they want to get all the people out of their cars and into the hoppers, but are they gonna replace the hoppers?
Nope!
Then they want to make it absolutly impossible to get either in or out for motorists. Great for me who lives in Credenhill...

I know the city centre traffic is a bit of a problem, but that's mostly caused by the through traffic as far as I can see. A bypass has to be the answer, though I don't know where they would site the new bridge.

You in the SAS too? No...forget I said that.

No i'm not in the SAS, never have been. Despite my suspect name. When the SAS camp was in stirling lines in hereford, did that make everybody who lived nearby automatic SAS?
As for the by-pass, they had plans passed and money given for the by-pass in '93, but they farted and faffed so the government took it away.
GOD DAMN YOU KEETCH, DAMN YOU TO HELL!!!!!!!!!
