You have some facts wrong about The Big Duck. First off the sale of the land by the last owners of The Big Duck was contingent about preservation of the duck. Read the following and make the corrections.

The Big Duck was last owned by noted artists Kia and Pouran Eshghi who saved the building by graciously donating it to the County of Suffolk. The Eshghi Family, Lance Mallamo and Richard Martin of Suffolk County Historical Society, and Jerry Kessler of Friends Of Long Island Heritage all played an integral role towards preservation by getting The Big Duck landmark status through The National Register of Historic Places. Friends for Long Island's Heritage took the initative to save this important landmark by negotiating the gift agreement on behalf of Suffolk County and then paying the $50,000 to restore the Big Duck when it was relocated to Sears Bellows Park in 1988.The building houses a gift shop operated by the Friends for Long Island Heritage. The duck was returned to its orignal location in on October 6, 2007. Suffolk County continues to own it, maintains its interior and pays for staffing; Southampton Town maintains the exterior. The original duck farm was purchased by the town in 2006.
