Probably it was because there is more stuff to sell. Parents will pay more for the plastic potato rather than a bunch of stuff for the real tuber - which costs a few dollars for a big sack of the things - Mind you the real thing is more ecologically sound - biodegradable etc. Maybe they could make more money by going back to the real potato and including an order form so that consumers could order replacement organic mister-potato-head-certified potatoes for $1 each or a dozen for $10.You would not want your children touching and playing with anything else. They are also selected by a team of Jesuit trainied spud certifiers to have the appropriate cranial properties.
