Well, I (living in Dinslaken, Germany) have to put some things right...
1. The correct word is "Schrebergarten". Two or more are "Schrebergaerten"
2. A collection of these gardens form a colony or so called "Schrebergartenanlage"
3. Of corse not all gardens are clean, nicely raked and so on
