Great Entry on this milestone in British pop music .
I would however argue about whether or not it was the first pop video. In the sense of being a video to accompany the music, then no it wasn't - there are plenty of prior examples. However, as a video which was a composition in its own right, then yes it is.

Good point, h5ringer, although I find this sentence in the Entry a rather harsh way of dealing with it: "A promotional video was made for the song which is sometimes, incorrectly, credited as the first-ever music video."
Bo Rhap was the first music *video* as opposed to a music promo that was created on film like the Beatles' one was.

I had the privilege of being one of the videotape engineers editing Bohemian Rhapsody with Queen in Wardour Street, London.
There were numerous engineering challenges involved with both the audio and video multi layering which can readily be done on a home PC today!
The "state of the art" VTR's we used at that time were RCA TR70C quadruplex machines using 2" videotape, and controlled by TTL based digital programmers (no microproçessors then!)
It was generally acknowledged within the Broadcast industry at that time that this really was the 'first' real pop video.
Personally I agree, however everyone is fully entitled to their own opinion and we should respect that.
Key: Complain about this post
