There are much better places for someone from the UK or Ireland to visit if they're looking for something similar to home.
My best suggestion is to go to The Tipperary Inn
in Dallas. They have lots of Irish and British beers on tap (as well as a local favorite, Shiner Bock, brewed in Shiner, Tx)
and as far as food have lots of genuine Irish fare such as Shepherd's Pie and Colcannon. Furthermore, there's the
Emerald Mist Pub in Plano, Tx (a suburb 30 minutes north of downtown
Dallas), and O'Dowd's in Dallas.

My list of favorite pubs/bars in the Fort Worth/Dallas area:
• Ye Olde Bull & Bush - Fort Worth. This is a genuine English-style pub. There are no teevees, no video games, and no stools. There's darts, and a jukebox. Plenty of small tables to sit and drink at with your friends, or stand at the bar and chat with the owner/bartender, Nick, who has some great pilot stories about flying in Nairobi.
• The Flying Saucer - Fort Worth. They boast the largest selection of beers in town. This place is usually quite crowded on the evenings and weekends, but for a nice afternoon pint, it's the perfect place to go.
• The Tipperary Inn - Dallas. Good place to go for expensive beer and delicious food. The Tipperary will be closed for two months for remodeling, and it sounds like they're going more for the "sports bar" crowd, which is a shame.
• Emerald Mist - Richardson. Another good place for expensive beer and food. If you're looking for good Celtic music, this is the place to be. The Blarney Brothers, Brother, Brothers III (and all the other brother bands you can think of) and Six Mile Bridge can be seen there on a regular basis.
There's several more Irish bars in the area, but they're decidedly more dank.

If you'r ever in North Dallas I would recommend the Gingerman in Uptown.
