Does anyone know if Chocolate is toxic to rats?

That's an interesting question. It seems an awful waste of chocolate, when there are other things available to poison rats with. I'm sure there are students out there who have fed lab rats a chockie.
Why not post this question on the Ask H2G2 page. If you find out, I'll include the information in the Chocolate Entry.

Chocolate is toxic to many animals, including dogs and cats and fish. It may as well be toxic to rats, which is a scary thought because rats are considered in science the closest animal to humans in the labratory. Does that mean chocolate is toxic to humans as well, if it is toxic to rats???

It is, I think, but at a dosage far greater than the average person is ever likely to consume without vomiting and having to start again. The same could be said of a lot things that we do for pleasure.
