These are usually flat, soft yet sturdy, brown or beige in colour, and perhaps with the added security of laces. They are worn predominantly by people who recognise the fragile existence they suffer and have no intention of doing it with uncomfortable feet. They have, therefore, an almost anarchic disregard for contemporary fashion, and use phrases such as "do everything in moderation..."

Sensible shoes are also associated with certain types of women, such as Feminists, Grandmothers and aging Royalty.
