Can you help with the best part of Auckland to buy a house. Not too expensive but a nice area.

try the north shore areas like glenfield are womderful and not too exspensive, good house at the moment for about $225000nzd, birkenhead and birkdale arnt to bad either be prepared to spend about 200-250K nzd to get a nice house,
The north shore is a fabulous place with lots of great beaches, shopping centres, parks, great schools and great people, low crime rates, i lived there for 22 years and now live in england im moving back there at the end of the year, please email me at [email protected] and ill help you out with info and contacts etc

If you check out my page you will find a discussion I have had with a Canadian family who are thinking of emigrating to NZ.
The forum contains quite a few NZ facts

Well, while I'm sure Glenfield is affordable, it's also rather dull. (No offence, shoreboy). And to get to work in the city requires crossing the Bridge in the crush-hour, which is quite a heavy chore, I'm sure you'll agree.
I'm biased, but what about somewhere on the city side - Onehunga or Avondale, Ellerslie or Pt Chevalier? All are closer to the city and have a bit more in the way of character (well maybe not Avondale!).
Best of luck to you, wherever you end up!

Only unintersting people relocate anywhere near Auckland.
Try Napier, a NZ Pacific Pearl
