h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

Extract from my diary:The next day up for a 7:30AM pickup to the Quick Cat Π, lovely blue day, just ½ hour out started seeing dolphins in the distance.
First stop one young Humpback male, quite friendly, hung around the boat a while but not getting too close.
We moved on 10 - 15 minutes and caught up with a mother and young calf, breaching, who kept a bit of a distance.
Last stop two males, probably yearlings, took a keen interest in the boat, swimming under and around the ship and putting on a show of synchronised swimming and people-watching. Sometimes they'd 'spy hole' putting their heads above the water and spinning 360° to scan the horizon, looking at us, looking at them.
Truly life changing stuff, we bought the video.
We headed back running parallel to the coast of Fraser Island, the biggest sandbank in Australia, there was claimed to be a Dugong (Sea Cow) but didn’t see it and no more dolphins.

Wonderful! That sort of experience is something you never forget.
