aha, but...

Terry Pratchett thought he had created the onamatapoetic phrase representing the semi-brethed utterances of a person in deep sleep (albeit one who is being dragged into wakefulness) when he coined the word "astfgl..." for the discworld books.

Then he was consternated to discover it appears in Herge's "Tintin" books from the 1930's, or at least translations out of Belgian...

And it's at exactly the other end of the alphabet.
