this might have already been mentioned, but i didnt read all the threads. i wont comment on love bites, good or bad, but i do know away to get rid of them that actually works, and does not involve stinking of toothpaste.
take a plastic comb (the thinner and closer together the teeth, the better), and sweep it over the love bite, applying light pressure, in an upward motion. it should not hurt (much). dont press so hard that you exacerbate (sp?) the mark, but hard enough so that there is some temporary pinkness. continue until you notice a slight lessening of the hickey in question. wait a while (15 min?) and try again. i know this sounds bizarre, but it honestly works. it has, with patience, gotten rid of large, purple, and otherwise hideously embarrassing love bites in a very short time. i think maybe it has something to do with getting the circulation going, to move the blookd away from the area (as a love bite is just a bruise, really). but honestly, i dont know. just know that it works.
i have also heard that a hard bristled toothbrush works, but have no personal knowledge.
so, have fun biting each other! secure in the knowledge that the evidence can be removed before granny's visit/college graduation day/photo op with president, etc

Can I just add that this REALLY works! I had a nasty old love bite on my neck this morning and since popping to Boots for a comb and been following the above instructions the bite looks like it's pretty much gone!

I'll tell you what works better than the "fine tooth comb", I have on several occasions doled out a "lovebite" or two, and have been on the receiving end as well. I must admit, the thought of getting or giving one gets me kind of hot under the collar. But I too regret these "tattoos of passion" after the moment. The best way to get rid of them, and don't kid yourself, nothing is instant, is to apply standard run of the mill toothpaste over the mark for 3-4 days. It shortens the normal "healing" period of 6-7 days.
