I simply ADORE fried bologna on whole wheat toast, spread with "It's Not Really Butter"!
It's truly one of the most delicious 'hearty' treats one can ever consume!
Of course, if one bothers to research exactly what bologna REALLY consists of, one would almost certainly 'gag'!
The thing is though, that it's really not good for one's blood pressure, heart, or kidneys.
Or so my doctor informs me!

I'd have to say that "unbelieveably popular in the United States" may be a bit of a stretch! (You must not be from the good old US of A, I'd guess.) If you were talking about hamburgers or hot dogs I'd have to agree with you. Bologna sandwiches in the US, on the other hand, are more the province of epicures and true gourmets and connoisseures such as myself rather than of the unwashed masses whose palates would not be sufficiently discerning to appreciate such an epicurean delight.
The ultimate balogna sandwich, to which I subscribe, is made as follows:
Two slices of whole-wheat bread, one generously spread with reduced-fat chunky peanut butter, the other generously spread with low-fat mayonnaise. Between these, layer at least two slices of low-fat turkey bologna and one or two generous slices of Velveeta (or other comparable processed ersatz cheese). These layers may be topped with a thin layer of potatoe chips, to add a subtle flavor thrill and delightful texture. Now you have the perfect balogna sandwich! Enjoy!
This sandwich was a staple of my college days, which are barely a remote memory now, but I still enjoy the occasional bologna sandwich. Motto: It is cheap, it is nourishing, therefore, it is good.

I know broe (or whatever her name is now) is in the US--right smack dab in the middle
Best way to make a bologna sandwich is to leave the bologna off

White bread. Bologna. American "cheese" (NOT CHEESE). Ick. Ew. I throw up in your general direction.
