one of the after effects of Krakatoa is supposed to have inspired the skline in Munch's famous scream painting. The bright red sky in the background of the painting maybe a capturing the aerial colours in the sky at the time. Munch painted the Scream painting in 1893 just 10 years after the explosion and only 5 or so years after the effects started to fade away...

It is also believed that many of J M Turner's paintings were influenced by the colours generated by ash from the Tambora eruption of 1815.
