Now that I think of it, the British way of calling them "chat shows" is a bit more specific than the American "talk shows", because talking is the focus of about _every_ show on TV, while "chatting" conveys that Sitting-in-Adjacent-Chairs-Wittily-Plugging-My-Movie-and-Telling-Anecdotes aspect.
