In the section on "The Siege of Acre", second paragraph, the text reads: "... silo of shots ..." . Should this be "... salvo of shots ..."?

Another one: The Last Battles of the Sailing Ships

"...some confusion in Algiers lead instead to..."
Shouldn't that be
"...some confusion in Algiers led instead to..."

The Steam Age
"...and fierce competition lead to continuous technological improvements..."

Same as above. Lead is pronouned "led" when it is the metal. When it is the verb led is the past tense. In the verb to lead it rhymes with bleed and is immediately recognised as being wrong.

I'm really enjoying the article and I think it is well written. Sorry to be pedantic, but there is a high standard to maintain.

Ironside
"This lead to the need for shell-firing guns..."
"...a lack of careful weighting lead to the more ambitious Captain capsizing..."

Toperdoes and Submarines
"...the risk of collision with surface ships lead to several peacetime disasters..."

Battleships
"Its construction lead to an arms race between Britain and Germany,"

I think that's the lot! smiley - ok

Well, the fact that it took five separate posts to cover them all kind of shows that they're not so easy to spot smiley - smiley
