Daniel Handler and Lemony Snicket are the same person Believe me, I've researched this for a while, and soon came across an interview with Daniel Handler, who has written two other books, about why he took on a pseudonym and pursued a children's series. They're the same man! Which is rather disappointing, but makes sense when you think about how much "Mr. Snicket" is involving himself into the stories.
As another side note, I believe you're right on with saying that the V in VFD stands for Volunteer--but I'm betting that the F is fire! Why? Because before Count Olaf came around, it was the VFD (maybe volunteer fire department?)'s job to put out fires But AFTER his arrival into the group, it sort of became the Volunteer Fire Distributors
because I think Count Olaf burned down the Baudelaire house. Thought you'd like some opinions from a huge SOUE fan

Yeah, you're right, I knew that, but I wasn't going to make the entry boring by saying that!!!! Hell no!
I also think the 2nd word might be Fire (or Family) and the last maybe Detectives. I dunno.
