I am a Native Alaskan and we apparently never bound our feet in the past. It was too important to for us to move around for shelter and food. We did do facial tattoos which did not slow us down on moving. The men could not have women that sat around, they needed hard working women to get the supplies that lasts during the summer and winter. The more the women worked the more status the men had.
