Oddly enough, I've also read (in 'Food for Free' by Richard Mabey) that Goethe's favourite dish was Brussels sprouts with chesnuts. Obviously a poet who liked his food.

Oh...and by the way...when it says you can buy it pre-packed - that's usually as in a bunch of herbs wrapped up in a piece of paper. Often the paper has a recipe. Don't know why - it's usually 'Chop 'em up and add cream/ sour cream/ yoghurt.'

Yes, that's exactly what it is. I'm really glad I chose the correct word after all I searched and searched for the garden center where they grow the herbs, it's in Frankfurt/Niederrad as far as I know, and they do export the packages I seem to remember, but I couldn't find it, and for some reason there is no address on the packages
>>Brussels sprouts with chesnuts<< hmmm, why not, it's possible, but then it wouldn't add to the popularity of the green sauce if that was common knowledge, eh ?

Damn! I have a sudden craving for green sauce. Also...its the Spargl season - the lovely, thick, blanched stuff that you can't get over here. The best way to eat it is with yellow potatoes, a soft-yolked egg and galleons of melted butter.

Mind you...I'm having green Asparagus for dinner. Normally I have it roasted, in the Italian manner (pre-heat oven to 11, drizzle asparagus in olive oil and sprinkle with sea salt. Roast a few minutes and serve with shaved parmesan or - even better - pecorino). Tonight I'm having it steamed, though, with Jersey Royals.
I've also just had a large bottle of 7.8% scrumpy. "Of course, I was verrr verrr drrunk.."

Oh yes, it's asparagus season allright. I agree about the potatoes and melted butter,no egg, though, but a good ham -not too salty.
Soo, are you a German living abroad, or have you lived in Germany for long ?

Neither...just an occasional visitor to Frankfurt. (and a vegetarian one).

Oh, and your way of roasting the green asparagus sounds absolutely yummy, maybe I'll do that one day

My best friend and his husband live there. I haven't visited recently due to the complications of family, money, etc. They've just built a big, new house though, in Bad Homburg - so that sounds like a good excuse.

Bad Homburg isn't far from where I live - about 20 min on the Autobahn, much more with public transport, though. Next time you go there, give me a shout, and we can meet up somewhere, maybe even TC will be able to make it, depends on the date.
