In Other Words by Amy the Ant

When you go to bed tonight, as you tuck yourself in, read yourself a nice bedtime story, and hug your favorite teddy bear, I beg of you not to think about me.

'But DZ, I think about you all the time! I LOVE YOU!' you may say to yourself, but please... think not of me! For the trials and tribulations I am destined to face over the coming days will surely test the very boundaries of my sanity1, and the mere thought of it will surely drive you MAD! For I am about to start

SCHOOL!

*Insert bloodcurdling scream here* Not only that, but this is my last year of HIGH SCHOOL! AAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!! Wait... that's not a bad thing. But then I go to college and decide my future and get a job that has nothing to do with my major and get married and have bratty children and grow old and DIE! YES! My Senior year is just another step closer to my GRUESOME DEATH!smiley - yikes

Senior year means I have to start pondering my future and by God there's nothing more terrifying than that. It's time to fill out scholarships, because I could get a five-organ transplant for less money than it will cost me to go to college - for one semester. It's time to strive for my goals of majoring in English and eventually becoming a humour columnist for a major newspaper, and ultimately realizing that'll probably never happen. I think you can see why I dread this year. I can just imagine how my first day will start:

MOM: Rise and shine, Katie! Time to be a Senior! Oh, my little baby's growing up so fast!!

ME: DIE! *Throws shoe at mom's head*

I guess I'll have to try to do something nearly impossible and look at the brighter side of things. I guess I will be at the top of the totem pole. I can bully all those measely little Jr Highers!

ME: Hey! Measely little Jr. Higher! Give me your lunch money!

MEASELY LITTLE JR HIGHER: Bite me. I could kick your butt.

ME: FINE!

Yep, that's right. No Jr Higher will be safe from the wrath of Katie. I just hope they don't try to push me down the stairs again. *Limp limp*.

I just pray to God college is better than High School. College is better than high school, right? FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS SACRED AND HOLY TELL ME COLLEGE IS BETTER THAN HIGH SCHOOL!!! *sigh* I guess it's kind of pointless to complain about having to go to school that's free, when I'll be going to school later and paying a whole butt-load of money to do so. Oh what a vicious twisted cycle they've got me in. Curse you, educational system! You've sucked out my SOUL!!!

I'm not ready. I'm not ready to face my life. To leave my mom, and my friends, and my room. I'm not ready to do my own laundry, to feed myself, to set my own alarm clock. I'm not ready to leave the comfort of knowing that everything is laid out for me right here at home. But I have to go anyway. I have to face the world and make something of myself. I have to make a dent. By the way, in college I'm planning on studying abroad in the UK - any of you over there care to take me in? Thankssmiley - winkeye
