When I was introducing an ex girlfriend to the pleasures of guitar playing, and tuning her instrument (rather than tuning her instrument 
) the high E string broke at the machinehead.
Normally no problem.
Not this time, the end that broke was hooked over and as it did it swung into my middle finger. Into. IN TO my finger. At speed. This, as you can imagine hurt, a lot as it happens, but worse was to come.
As it went in the bent end hooked around the little tendon in said finger. It took a lot to get it out you know. About half an hour of delicate probing, and left me with a finger the size of a good sausage.
