h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

Here in Malmesbury, we will be celebrating the 1000th anniversary of this occurrence with a year of flight-themed events, all under the headline “Flight of Fantasy – Eilmer 2010”. These events are expected to attract a great deal of local, national and international press coverage across all media streams.
Just a few of the events planned are:
• An International Kite Festival
• A wing-walking display day, along with a skydive by Eilmer himself
• A Malmesbury team hopes to enter a Birdman competition, all dressed as Eilmer
• Publication of a Children’s story-book, with words and pictures provided by local school children, professional authors and illustrators
• The World Premiere of a Musical based on the life of Eilmer
• A themed Ball, hosted by the Mayor of Malmesbury
• Rocket-making activities and displays
• A re-enactment of the flight (by kind permission of Malmesbury Abbey)
• Special exhibitions in the Athelstan Museum in Malmesbury
