Looking goo
One or two tiny little things:
"Charlie Patton, The Delta Dandy
"I like to fuss and fight
I like to fuss and fight
Lord and get sloppy drunk off a bottle and ball
And walk the streets all night"
Charlie Patton - Elder Green Blues"
A footnote explaining what a 'ball' is in this context wouldn't go amiss.
"Charlie Patton was small man, weighing perhaps only 135 pounds,"
Any chance of the equivalent in stones here? After all, not many Brits gauge their weight in pounds.
"Patton advertised himself as the Delta Dandy and did his best to live up to his reputation by dressing as well as he could afford at all times, normally sporting an expensive suit, spats and a bow tie.) "
There seems to be an AWOL bracket here
"During these exhausting shows (and juke joint players could play for upwards of six or seven hours at a time),"
I'm not sure that 'and' is needed- the clause inside the parenthesis is explaination, not exposition.
"Within two years, however, House returned (alone) to Mississippi and attempted to revive his career as a preacher (apparently having lost interest in the hard work of his youth."
It's those pesky escaping brackets again- you need to nail 'em down....
" for he was no to record again until 1941"
Not to record?
"Not that the Lomax's where in any doubt about the travails of the blues man in the south"
Were in any doubt?
Apart from that- a cracking good read with a style that makes me want to read more

Right, corrected those, added a footnote to explain Patton's use of Ball, and tidied up a few other bits of stuff I noticed as i was going through.
