Like Hastings Wath upon Dearne has a folk festival over the May day bank holiday weekend which has run as long as I can remember. For a few years I worked as a steward, run a couple of sessions and one year I actualy performed as an Artist.
One unusual thing that happens is the bun "throwing."
Which takes place from the church tower. Fresh bread buns are thrown down into the crowd below by the local baker, I don't know why but it,s traditional.
Morris dancing is already cool, go to Whitby for their festival in August and see.
Sottish and Irish traditional
dances don't get ridiculed by the uninformed, why should English traditional dance.

There are a few other places in the area that hold Jack type festivals too- and come the winter there are loads of winter solstice bonfires.

Same here in Yorkshire, but you
mentioning bonfires brings back some pleasant memories of jamming round camp fires with whistles,guitars and fiddles.
Sadley I don't get to many festivals these days because of my sporting commitments.The last time I went to Whitby was five years ago but while I was there
I married my wife Jackie. But I do miss the muso's sessions.
