A Conversation for 'Akira' - the Animated Movie

Has anyone else read the manga? The movie only covers about a quarter of what actually happens. There's a massive amount of political subplot and many characters have larger parts. For example, Joker, the leader of the clowns, is one of the heroes, but in the movie he is seen only for a few seconds. Also the cult leader you see during the end of the film being carried towards the stadium, altho only in the film for those few frames, is actually responsible for alot of the plot movement. Kei suffers one of the stranger changes, as in the manga she is one of the psychic children. I can't even begin to touch on the massive amount that couldn't be fit in the movie, but anyone who really enjoys Akira is missing out on so much until they have read the beautiful manga it came from.
