although, yes it is "generally considered an 'old blokes' pub'", we used to use it as our starting point for a night out on Fridays back in the good old sixth form college days... due to the cheap booze. Dunno if that's still the case, but plenty of other students seemed to do the same at the time...

Yes. While old blokes are in no short supply at the Skylark (and I can only suppose they are the majority of the visitors for some of the time), I have known there to be large concentrations of football fans of all ages when there is a popular evening game being watched upstairs (which in fact makes it hard to find a seat on these occasions) and I've also visited the Skylark many times with upper-sixth-form crowds 2003-2004.
I was also under the impression they had a special curry offer.
Last but not least, the pubs connection with the sky lies not only in its name but also in the several small paintings around the place. The precise nature of the connection remains a mystery, but the hole in the ceiling may or may not be relevant.
