Rene Antoine Ferchault de Reaumer was a contemporary of Celsius and developed a scale of temperature with 0 as the triple point of water and 80 as the boiling point. I'm not sure why.

You are absolutely correct, (plus there probably should be a couple in Réné) but I couldn’t work out how to get the accent. (I can now).

I seem to remember having a similar conversation in Peer Review - I decided to leave this particular scale out of the entry just because it was no-longer used
(Ok, I'll be honest, if I'd included this scale I'd have had to research the other 20 or 30 odd scales that have been used over the last couple of hundred years 
)
