I gave up reading newspapers years ago because of the relentless focus on tragedy - but I see that I should have taken up attending opera instead for the same reason. What a grand entry this is. Btw, is singing one's self to death a kind of live-by-the-sword die-by-the-sword fate? (You don't mention if she sings badly or well - I assume it is well since it is not the audience that expires.)
