Hot showers are mentioned in the article, but only as means of rectifying neck pain. Drinking water is also mentioned, but only to say "Don't bother".
Really, these things are best for producing sweat. Sweat is the major means the body has for cleaning out toxins at the cellular level. The drinking water's for replenishing the sweat supply.
Of course, if you don't sweat, the water goes literally to waste. Hot showers, hot tubs, and saunas are good for inducing sweat. So's a nice workout, if you can bear it. So's a warm blanket, if you can't.
