If ever you wonder why cricket is not popular in North America this little essay on score keeping is a perfect example. We simply do not have the mental resources to cope with this level of complexity. I blame MTV and FOX news but that begs the question of why I, who watch neither and am a Canadian, find reading this somewhat akin to trying to help my son with his grade ten math homework. smiley - erm
Please don't take this as a critcism of the writing of the article, which is excellent, rather it is a lament for the lost art of thinking here on the other side of the pond. smiley - smiley

Most cricket fans don't understand it either- the official scorers calculate the figures from the chart and then it comes up on the scorecard what the adjusted targets/totals are.

I wrote the thing, have an A-Level in Maths with Statistics and the formula they use to work out the table had me blithering like an idiot (it's the reason I didn't include it).
