A Conversation for Bodhrans
Drum hand positions

The most common way I've seen to hold the Bodhran is to place the left hand between the braces and the skin, pressing the edge of the palm to the skin. By changing the pressure and the position of the hand many different tones can be achieved. An advanced player can really make the drum "sing" this way. Not me of course. The best I can do this way is make it "mumble".
Very nice article btw. I do like your mnemonics for the rhythms.

Good article. I first saw a Bodhran at the Highland Gathering in Selkirk, Manitoba, and fell in love with it. The gentleman playing it was adept and it sounded wonderful. I want one - and mine won't hang on the wall!

Yes, well written and in simple, direct, understandable-by-an-idiot prose. And the mnemonics are well-chosen and appropriate.
Good work!
