A Conversation for The Glottal Stop

The substituted "r"

In the Hull dialect the "r" sound is sometimes used as an alternative to the glottal stop. For example, the word "getting" is sometimes pronounced "ge'in'" (with the final "g" not pronounced), and sometimes pronounced "gerrin'". Does anyone know whether this "r" substitution for the "t" sound has an accepted name ?

Can't think of one, no. By the way, using an /r/ sound here isn't restricted to Hull, eg the Super Furry Animals' 'Something 4 the Weekend' - "things are gerrin' easier" or summat.
