What do people reckon to Eric Idle being CMOT Dibbler, Brian Blessed as Ridcully (obvious choice I feel!!), Steve Buscemi as Rincewind (If he could put on a decent english accent. Steve Buscemi played Mr Pink in Reservoir Dogs an only really thought of him because in the film he played a really nervous criminal who was concerned solely about number one, exactly who Rincewind comes across as!), Tony Robinson or Craig Charles after playing Lister in Red Dwarf as Nobby Nobbs, Christopher Lee as Death (make death computer generated like Gollum), someone such as Clint Eastwood with a english accent or Daniel Day-Lewis as Vimes (Rowan Atkinson would be a good Vimes too after Blackadder but may not be imposing enough. not sure),Malcolm Macdowell as the Head of the Assassins Guild (sorry I cannot remember his name!! He was in Clockwork Orange and Gangster Number 1 for anyone who has seen these films.). NOt sure about other characters but these were my thoughts. tell me what you think.

IMHO Steve Buscemi hasn't got the legs to play RW

Malcolm McDowell as Dr Downey? Good choice! smiley - ok

I also think Tony Robinson would be great as Nobby, with Fred Elliot as Colon smiley - laugh

I was expecting someone taller...

Nah I reckon Fred Elliot would be a good Colon but I always had the image of the dumpy rosy-cheeked-butcher type person. He would be good but I think maybe a little hit and miss in places. Yeah Malcolm McDowell would be a great Dr Downey. Actually a bit of brainwave just coming on.....bit of make up to make him look a bit older and Peter Kay would be pretty good as Colon. Just a thought. What does everyone think?

Played as the bouncer in Phoenix Nights and he'd be perfect! smiley - biggrin

just had an epiphany - is it Helen Baxendale who was in cold feet - the one who was in the car crash? played Emily in Freinds... dye her hair blonde an she might be a good Angua - either her or Cat Deeley

why does no-one stop to consider what a film might do to the books?! Both Lord of the Rings (especially the most recent one)and (dare I say it!) Harry Potter lost part of the reason that they were so popular in the film versions. Bad films kill the hearts of books.

Dibbler

I think in a way you might be right, the way in which this risk is bypassed somewhat would be to get a production team cast and direcotr that have read and loved Pratchett, a tema that would genuinely love to see the film/s be what the readership would like to it/them to be and not just a massive money spinner - the problem comes from the studio and whether it would allow such a team to be brought together. Either way Terry's involvement in such ventures is a must, or have him do the directing himself...

Just a few thoughts anyway! You may agree or not!
This may be flogging a dead horse as well but I had to get my inputs... I hope you all will humour me for a minute

I agree with Angus Daeyton playing Vetinari, Emma Chambers (dopey one from the vicar of Dibbley)as Magrat, even Paul Gross (the mountie, Due South) as Captain Carrot. But I have to question your choices for some of the others and of course offer suggestions of my own.

Tony Robinson would be an excellent Nobby you can already see Nobby in his Pvt. Baldrick character.
Craig Charles (Red Dwarf, Robot Wars)would be my choice for Fred Colon.

Geoffrey Rush as Mustrum Ridcully!

Ving Rhames(Played Marsellus Wallace in Pulp Fiction) OR
Michael Clarke Duncan (Played John Coffey in the "Green Mile" and Colonel Attar, the lead Gorilla, in Planet of the Apes) would be PERFECT for Detritus.

Bruce Willis OR Ken Stott as Vimes.
Possibly Joanna Lumley as Lady Sybil?

Clare Forlani(Meet Joe Black, The Medallion) as Angua.

Tamzin Outhwaite (Eastenders, Red Cap) as Susan

Caroline Quentin(Jonathan Creek) as Littlebottom.

Alan Davies as Ponder Stibbons

Jackie Chan as Twoflower!
Pat Moreno (Mr. Miagi in Karate Kid) as Lu Tze

There are a few actors that I think would be good but can't picture them in a specific Character... like Eddie Izzard, Robson Greene, Keira Knightley, Caroline Catz, and Marc Warren.

There are so many more characters that have been covered or not covered but I only have so much space...

Alan Davies as Ponder Stibbons? Ho nonono! I suggest Mackenzie Crook out of the office - he has that lanky, studenty geeky look about him. Alan Davies would be better as another wizard. I could see Eddie Izzard as Rincewind though smiley - biggrin

how about Eddie Izzard as the Bursar? - bee a hell of a makeup job but it might work.. he's off the wall enough for it... i think detritus'd have to be CG but Ving Rhames'd be good for that - if James Earl Jones is booked..

Burt Kwok (Pink panther, Tenko, harry Hill) as twoflower.
Julie Walters as Granny Weatherwax, Victoria Wood as Nanny Ogg.
Samuel L Jackson as Detritus.
Bill Bailey as Rincewind.
