h2g2's own Bluebottle is locally famous for his ability to whistle tunes while running and cycling. Our esteemed Post Editor learned this a while ago and also knows that I have the ability to record soundtracks and create videos, so asked us to work together to showcase this talent.

The situation was somewhat artificial, given that Bluebottle's whistling for this video had to take place while he was sitting still in the middle of town with urban seagulls and buses joining in, rather than when running or cycling in quieter areas. However, thanks to the wonders of modern technology I managed to make a recording and 'clean' it to remove some of the background noise (a gull still gets a cameo role). There is no doubting Bluebottle's whistling skill as the chosen tune 'Also Sprach Zarathustra' demonstrates the full range of notes from low to high.

'Also Sprach Zarathustra' was used as the theme tune to 2001: A Space Odyssey so that inspired me to produce a video to accompany the whistled soundtrack using smileys from here in h2g2! Here is the video for your enjoyment.
