You haven't mentioned his catch-phrase. He always ended his shows with "Good night, and may your God go with you." I think he needs a knighthood for making religion seem human, rather than all-powerful and unassailable...

I remember one of the funniest things Dave did once was describe how he kept himself amused when in traffic jams. He was unfortunate enough to have lost the end of his forefinger on one of his hands. When in traffic he would endeavour to attract someones eye by appearing to vigorously pick his nose with a "normal" size finger. Once their attention was caught, he would surreptitiously transfer the "restricted" digit which would take on the appearance of spearing his brain. His crosseyed manic look would then freak out the mesmerised watcher
His other trick of sewing his lip with invisible thread was highly amusing too. Top bloke.
