MILTON KEYNES "SNOZONE" - ENGLAND
Created | Updated Jan 28, 2002
Well, we finally did it, went to England's Premier Ski Resort - MILTON KEYNES!!!!!
475 metres of Freshly groomed Piste, 2 Drag lifts and a Travelator. All on top of a "leisure" complex. The Pistes are just long enough to get up to speed and into the rythm (and wish they were longer!). Wear a Helmet if you want to do any jumps - or you'll get told off!
Its basically a BIIIIG fridge kept at around -3 C all the time. The Piste is split up into 3 sections (slopes) 2 of 170 metres long and a "nursery" slope of about 135 metres). The Snow is good condition - obviously Man Made. A few gentle undulations, no Moguls or anything and its basically straight down. But they do make a few Jumps on one of the pistes, to make it a bit more interesting. Slopes aren't very crowded - a GOOD thing - the lifts are just fast enough - we got about 8 runs in, in an hour. Costs are OK, 20 per hour - includes Ski/Boot Hire, and Helmet if you want it. Apres Ski is good - There's a Weatherspoon's pub - The Moon Under Water, (surely that should be Snow?) as well as other Drinkeries/Eateries, a Sports Shopping centre, and a Cinema under the slope/sports club (including a swimming pool, running machines, an Exercise Studio,etc...). Overall Its probably got more Pubs/Clubs/Restaurants than your average "real" Ski Resort.
Slopes are open from 9:30 am to 11:00 p.m., so you could even pop up to the slopes after work..
Overall a worthwhile Day out - just to make sure we hadn't completely forgotten how to Ski. Also if you are thinking of going Skiing for the first time they do Taster sessions which seem like a good idea to me, and lessons if you want to get a head start before you Hit the slopes.
The Centre is Called "Xscape" and the Ski Bit is called the "SnoZone". You can also climb on one of two Climbing walls in the centre.
On the Web it is www.xscape.co.uk - further developments are going ot be in Yorkshire and Germany. The Snozone has its own site www.snozone.co.uk.
