I get a tax refund this year. Admittedly, not an incredibly large one, but enough so that I will file my taxes the minute I get the official W2s - my tax return is all ready.

Yeah! lets all cheer for the Tax refund?!
The last four years I've gotten over $2000... Those government transfers of wealth fom the rich to the poor called "earned income credit". This year I expect over $2500. I'm hardly cheering though. I would rather be working at a decent job and not paying taxes due to a mortgage than getting a yearly boost from uncle sugar. The whole tax scheme is so perverse. I would suggest that a mere 5% across the board (everyone pays no exceptions) would raise more taxes than the 30,000 pages of cross identified and confusing blather we have now. Even the IRS employees dont know all of the rules and they wrote them.
The problem is that politics has made taxes a method of controlling our spending. Since politics is "corruption that is authorized" by the government, its no wonder than tax credits, and exemptions and loop holes for just about everything in the world exist. If a person has enough money they can so carefully use it so that they make huge amounts and have no taxes. Only in america
