Metal Chicken

Aiming for a relaxing Spring holiday in the sun we headed for Norfolk in the snow (long story, to do with outdated passport and late season Weather).

Walked into our holiday local pub on the first night to find a new uke being passed around the bar by its excited owner. Having a uke chord sheet in my bag (as you do) I quickly verified my credentials as fellow enthusiast and a happy afternoon was spent with my new friends, butchering classic songs on uke and merry vocal cords.

Much fun was had, although I politely declined the offer to join their dubiously named folk band for the next gig. Norfolk's a long way from home.

2legs - Hey, babe, take a walk on the wild side...

Norfolk (and I would say Suffolk Too), are very beautiful in the snow....

ONe of my happiest memorys, was canoeing, up from Oulton Broad, to Beccles (why is everything* Beccles these days? Its weird....),
Would have been in December, oo late 80s, or early 90s, and it had* been snowing, and everywhere* when we started, was covered in frost... all the reeds, the fields, and with patches of ice on the water, in the slower moving bits/near the edges.....

One week later, we got the train to Beccles, to pick up the canoe, from where we'd left it, and to canoe back (its a lot further a distance through the river system, than it is on a straight or straightish, road route...).

The canoe (alaminium), was frozen to the grass in the garden smiley - wow

And the quey was totally* iced over..... luckily having an alaminium, 21 ft long canoe, paid off, as we used it as an ice breaker, to make our own channel, to get from the quey, into the more open water and within an hour, we were down to just tee shirts, under the boyancey aids, due to generating heat as we paddles, despite the entire countryside being covered in snow and ice smiley - cool so pretty smiley - magic and sparkley smiley - biggrinsmiley - cool Falling in the fens a bit brisk that time of year though... smiley - laughsmiley - magic

That sounds amazing 2legs. Norfolk was indeed very pretty in the snow although the freezing cold gale put a bit of a downer on outdoors activities. You and your mates are clearly made of sterner stuff. Or just gluttons for punishment...

Lanzababy - Guide Editor

I'm definitely an indoor/in the pub sort of person, where snow is involved. But I'd not be the one making music, so am impressed by Metal Chicken.

I love this description of the canoeing, 2legs. Thank you!
